April 13-19, 2025 is National Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week. Whether it’s picking up roadkill, investigating animal bites, picking up stray animals, educating the public on animal laws, dealing with chickens housed in city limits, bee keeping, coyotes, protecting foxes that roam in the city, a stray horse, and our recent bout of raccoons with distemper, our animal control officers handle numerous diverse calls professionally every day.Thank you to our Community Safety Supervisor, police officers, civilian support staff, Mason City Stray Animal Shelter staff, North Iowa Humane Society staff, and local veterinarian offices that serve our community and furry friends daily!

Hi I’m Gumdrop. I will happily run over and climb in your lap if you sit down, but I am not a fan of being picked up. I am super sweet and love to snuggle when I am comfortable, but I’m a bit of a princess and will let you know when I need my alone time. I would do best in a home without other pets or small children. I’m hoping there is a family out there that will appreciate my sassy & sweet purr-sonality.

We did a video earlier of nearly every dog that's in our care. Now it's time for the cats! All these kitties are looking for their forever homes after being here through no fault of their own. ☹ Almost all of them meow when you walk in the room, hoping they'll get your attention.
